Thick stone facade – rugged landscape

The house is very picturesque, on the Cycladic island of Syros, hillside directly overlooking the Aegean Sea. The geometry of the building follows the landscape, imitating stone walls, which are typical of the Greek island. The owners use the house as a holiday home at the moment and intend to retire. They want their collection of antiques – integrated into the architecture of their own home – especially the art of the late 19th and early 20th century, found in the Greek and Turkish houses. The residence of 450 square meters, located directly on the border between a traditional village and a barren mountain. It is built of marble and slate, dug here. The structure of the house consists of three single-story levels stacked vertically, with three bedrooms on the lower floor, there is further provided with a large kitchen and master suite, a spacious dining room and lounge and storage rooms above. Each level has its own access to outside space. Ancient Architecture in our time The architects designed the big house, so it is completely covered in the landscape. The house is large, but it has minimal energy consumption, green roofs and thick walls keep it cool in summer and warm in winter. The walls are made of 40 cm thick walls of the outside insulation 5 cm in the center and 8.75 cm thick wall inside. Rainwater is collected in a tank for further use in the household. The construction of the house was completed in March 2011.
